The first in the “standard” range of audiophile upgrades is for the respected Cambridge Audio Azur range. These well reviewed and award winning amplifiers punch above their weight from the cracking budget Azur 340A upwards. However, they are designed to a price point and are limited in their performance by the quality of parts used, or their omission.
The maudifi upgrade adds detail and transparency, improves separation and increases the scale of the soundstage. Width and depth of the stereo image are dramatically transformed to produce a more realistic musical performance. With the hidden potential of your amplifier released it can rival amplifiers several steps up the price ladder after modification.
If you have an Azur 340A, 350A, or 351A already and are thinking about replacing it, please consider a maudifi upgrade instead. We may be able to give you the improvement in sound quality you want at a lower price. For those of you that are entering the audiophile scene, you can generally pick up a good used example between £60 – £90. With maudification you will have an amplifier capable of competing with, and in many cases bettering, £1000 alternatives. Plus the re-asssurance of reliable quality upgrade parts and 1 year RTB warranty. If you have the time, some basic electronic knowledge / soldering skills, maybe you are an electronics hobbyist, you can do the upgrade yourself with a maudifi kit for a greater saving.
The 340A and its derivatives offer a cheap start to real hi-fi and decent audio reproduction at home. Combined with maudification (made up word alert) the results are impressive.

Stage 1 – Essential refinement

There are three variants of the Cambridge Audio 340A integrated amplifier. These, the 350A and 351A are all based on the same core circuitry. However, each model has minor changes over the preceding one. This affects the components to be upgraded and the time it takes to upgrade.

Unfortunately these upgrades can currently only be offered as a service to customers within the UK. This is due to customs procedures and shipping costs.
However, maudifi upgrade kits are now available with an extensive step-by-step upgrade manual. So, if you have the necessary skills you can perform the upgrade yourself, or you can have a local electronic technician do it for you.
Other Azur series amplifiers (540, 550, 551, 640, 650, 651, etc.), and those from other manufacturers, can also be upgraded. Please get in touch to discuss further.

- Pre-amp input coupling capacitors upgraded to quality polypropylene film types.
- Per-Input electrolytic capacitors removed.
- Pre-Amplifier Rectifier diodes replaced with Schottky types
- Power Amplifier Rectifier diodes replaced with Ultrafast types
- All electolytic capacitors upgraded still further with higher level audio grade ones.
- Pre-Amplifier voltage regulators can be replaced with lower noise circuits (option)
- Main signal path resistors can be upgraded with lower noise types (option)
